  3. Nov 1994 - started coding
  4.  
  5. 20th April 1995 (Beta-test version 1.0) - Tested by Dr. Adrian Radulescu 
  6. with 1000+ references and by the author with 600+ refs.
  7.  
  8. 7th May 1995 (Beta-test version 1.1) - Increase the number of author 
  9. fields from 8 to 10 (I haven't got any with nearly this number but Adrian 
  10. assures me it should handle 12 - we compromise on 10 for technical 
  11. reasons). Removal of potential bug in compacting and indexing. Refinement 
  12. of presentation. Add archiving and style default/restore.

  14. 18th May 1995 (Release version 1.0)

  16. 29th May 1995 (Version 1.0a) - Evaluation suggested several minor changes 
  17. to presentation including the use of unique identity numbers to identify 
  18. citation records. Improvements to the manual. Previous data files NOT 
  19. compatible - archive to import.

  21. 10th June 1995 (Version 1.0b) - Problem with memory transfer and 
  22. !Techwriter circumvented. New "options" file with memory_transfer ON/OFF, 
  23. archive_#ID ON/OFF, left_bracket, right_bracket features. Also includes 
  24. Journals List which is presented and loaded more cleanly. Compiled with 
  25. latest version of SBase (ver 2.3). Previous data files compatible.

  27. July 1995 (Version 1.0c) - Changed author surname/inital assumptions. 
  28. Initials are now considered to be all characters after the last space in 
  29. any author string. This should assist with handling of complex names. 
  30. Option to include "and" before penultimate author on output included. 
  31. Spaces removed from format string after use. Additional config options to 
  32. select "&" or "and" in export drag and penultimate author separator. Book 
  33. format added. Bug removed from "restore styles" option. Previous data 
  34. files compatible.

  36. Sep 1995 (Version 1.0d) - Search windows now automatically take the input 
  37. focus. Re-coded archive/de-archive to allow selection of ancillary fields 
  38. and included a header in the archive file to carry this info. Moved most 
  39. configuration options to a preferences window. Re-coded the bulk import 
  40. procedure so that it is 200% faster! Manual updated accordingly. Previous 
  41. data files compatible.

  43. Mar 1996 (Version 1.0e) - Correction of the archive CSV bug which loses 
  44. inverted commas within fields. This version is not for general release 
  45. but supplements the next version to ensure that all users can upgrade 
  46. smoothly. In most cases it won't be needed.

  48. April 1996 (Version 1.5) - Should have been version 2.0 but I have only 
  49. completed half the things I intended to do - hence 1.5. It represents 
  50. some 180 hours of (re-) coding and I felt that it should be wrapped up at 
  51. this stage for feedback. Changes include:
  52. 1) a button bar so the control features are not lost on scrolling.
  53. 2) addition of place/publisher/ISBN/editor fields for improved book 
  54. handling.
  55. 3) associated changes in the citation style window for book handling and 
  56. re-working of this window so that the cancel option reinstates previous 
  57. fields.
  58. 4) expansion of the date field for eg. 1985a or 12th Sept 1985. Expansion 
  59. of the page field for those who like to keep telephone numbers there! 
  60. (what's wrong with 13435-8..PK?)
  61. 5) keyword fields have been amalgamated to allow more flexibility. Total 
  62. length increased to 55.
  63. 6) main window revamped to contain all new fields but compact enough to 
  64. view all data in full window.
  65. 7) dedicated library resource similar to Impression document with 
  66. identifying sprite.
  67. 8) context sensitive icon bar menu.
  68. 9) new file import window for de-archiving and five-line bulk import.
  69. 10) also supports MEDLARS import.
  70. 11) correct a lot of irritating user interface errors and generally made 
  71. more RISCOS style compliant (well I think so...!)

  76. If there is enough interest in this package I plan to add several 
  77. features, for example:

  79. i) Scanning a manuscript text to automatically extract references and 
  80. assemble a citation list.

  82. ii) Detection of duplicate citations in a library.

  84. iii) an abbreviation dictionary
