- History
- =======
- Nov 1994 - started coding
-
- 20th April 1995 (Beta-test version 1.0) - Tested by Dr. Adrian Radulescu
- with 1000+ references and by the author with 600+ refs.
-
- 7th May 1995 (Beta-test version 1.1) - Increase the number of author
- fields from 8 to 10 (I haven't got any with nearly this number but Adrian
- assures me it should handle 12 - we compromise on 10 for technical
- reasons). Removal of potential bug in compacting and indexing. Refinement
- of presentation. Add archiving and style default/restore.
-
- 18th May 1995 (Release version 1.0)
-
- 29th May 1995 (Version 1.0a) - Evaluation suggested several minor changes
- to presentation including the use of unique identity numbers to identify
- citation records. Improvements to the manual. Previous data files NOT
- compatible - archive to import.
-
- 10th June 1995 (Version 1.0b) - Problem with memory transfer and
- !Techwriter circumvented. New "options" file with memory_transfer ON/OFF,
- archive_#ID ON/OFF, left_bracket, right_bracket features. Also includes
- Journals List which is presented and loaded more cleanly. Compiled with
- latest version of SBase (ver 2.3). Previous data files compatible.
-
- July 1995 (Version 1.0c) - Changed author surname/inital assumptions.
- Initials are now considered to be all characters after the last space in
- any author string. This should assist with handling of complex names.
- Option to include "and" before penultimate author on output included.
- Spaces removed from format string after use. Additional config options to
- select "&" or "and" in export drag and penultimate author separator. Book
- format added. Bug removed from "restore styles" option. Previous data
- files compatible.
-
- Sep 1995 (Version 1.0d) - Search windows now automatically take the input
- focus. Re-coded archive/de-archive to allow selection of ancillary fields
- and included a header in the archive file to carry this info. Moved most
- configuration options to a preferences window. Re-coded the bulk import
- procedure so that it is 200% faster! Manual updated accordingly. Previous
- data files compatible.
-
- Mar 1996 (Version 1.0e) - Correction of the archive CSV bug which loses
- inverted commas within fields. This version is not for general release
- but supplements the next version to ensure that all users can upgrade
- smoothly. In most cases it won't be needed.
-
- April 1996 (Version 1.5) - Should have been version 2.0 but I have only
- completed half the things I intended to do - hence 1.5. It represents
- some 180 hours of (re-) coding and I felt that it should be wrapped up at
- this stage for feedback. Changes include:
- 1) a button bar so the control features are not lost on scrolling.
- 2) addition of place/publisher/ISBN/editor fields for improved book
- handling.
- 3) associated changes in the citation style window for book handling and
- re-working of this window so that the cancel option reinstates previous
- fields.
- 4) expansion of the date field for eg. 1985a or 12th Sept 1985. Expansion
- of the page field for those who like to keep telephone numbers there!
- (what's wrong with 13435-8..PK?)
- 5) keyword fields have been amalgamated to allow more flexibility. Total
- length increased to 55.
- 6) main window revamped to contain all new fields but compact enough to
- view all data in full window.
- 7) dedicated library resource similar to Impression document with
- identifying sprite.
- 8) context sensitive icon bar menu.
- 9) new file import window for de-archiving and five-line bulk import.
- 10) also supports MEDLARS import.
- 11) correct a lot of irritating user interface errors and generally made
- more RISCOS style compliant (well I think so...!)

- Future Additions
- ----------------
- If there is enough interest in this package I plan to add several
- features, for example:
-
- i) Scanning a manuscript text to automatically extract references and
- assemble a citation list.
-
- ii) Detection of duplicate citations in a library.
-
- iii) an abbreviation dictionary
